Rio + 20 in Pics

You can check google for more pics of the conference. Here is a selection of pics to give a different perspective.

The Earth is Sick and Humans are the Problem. A poster hangs in the main entrance of the Rio +20 pavillion in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, showing that human beings are the disease that plagues the earth. Some NGO’s however, voiced concerns that the real endangered species is the human being and that demographic decline could have a devastating impact.
TIME TRAVEL IS POSSIBLE!

Idigenious People at the People’s Summit in downtown Rio probably benefited most at the event, as people bought jewelry and handmade artifacts from them. Here they are shown dancing and singing because they were so happy!

Hippies scantily clad at the Poeple’s Summit, painted each others bodies with henna and tried to sell peanuts. Many of them stayed at the People’s Summit for the whole week, and there were no showers within sight…

Communists called for redistribution of wealth and an end to corporate power. The Green Economy is just another marketing ploy by big corporations for these people. After the chant, the leader led the protesters in a round of “Blowin’ in the Wind.”

Favelas on the Run: A favela in Rio de Janeiro. It is the people who live in these slums who will probably benefit least from the Rio +20 conference. As of 2010, in Brazil, over 11 million people still reside in favelas (barrios) where they lack basic public services. Favelas are said to be very dangerous, and there was no way I was going to stop the car to take the picture.
