UN Women Director to Run for President of Chile?

Posted on | September 26, 2012 by Wendy Wright |

Rumors still swirl that UN Women’s director Michelle Bachelet will return to Chile to run again for president in 2013. A recent poll in Chile indicated that 50% would like her to be the next president.

Current president Sebastian Pinera said last week that Bachelet will be the candidate of the center-left coalition.

Bachelet has not talked about the possibility of running again. The first female president of Chile, she served from 2006 – 2010.

During the UN General Assembly this week, Bachelet gave a speech at a side event promoting reproductive rights as the means to achieving better women’s and children’s health.
